When we talk about your body and your health we know there are established normal values or ranges for most things. There are normal values for blood pressure, temperature, cholesterol, vision and different movements. This does not mean every person has to be that exact value, but there are healthy ranges depending on a persons age, gender and current health situation, from day old babies to our oldest patient in their late 90’s. While some people might not be structurally perfect, in the same manner our spine has a normal range and an optimal position of it’s structure and alignment.
A NeuroStructural shift occurs when areas of the spine shift away from its normal position (or alignment), thus loosing its normal function and also affecting the nerve system due to its association with the spine. Because the nerve system controls all the functions in your body, it makes sense that an underlying shift of the spine (a NeuroStructural Shift) could be the cause of many varying degrees of symptoms and problems.
It’s a bit like this – Think about your nerves as if they were like the wires that carried the signal from your TV antenna to your television. If there was some kind of interference or blockage with that signal, you may find your television doesn’t work like it should, eg no displays, no sound, or even nothing at all! Thinking along the same lines, what would you expect to happen if a spinal segment shifted and put pressure on a nerve interfering with its normal function.
The longer the NeuroStructural Shift is left uncorrected the more degenerative changes that will occur and then the secondary conditions start to take over.
At Complete Chiropractic we are looking for significant and specific NeuroStructural Shifts of your Spine and Nerve System that are outside of normal range. By going through our Complete NeuroStructural Examination you will understand how these issues can be addressed for you and your family’s long-term benefit.
